On campus there are two wireless networks: MCA-Staff3 and MCA - Guests. They transmit the same data at the same rate, with some exceptions. The guest network does not allow for streaming media (YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, etc.) or social media sites. While some meaningful learning happens through these platforms, they also provide enough distractions to students that we have disabled them here. Plus they use a lot of bandwidth that we want to reserve for school purposes.
Starting on Monday, September 9, we will begin monitoring the Staff and Guest networks.
If a student wishes to be reinstated to the Guest network, the following steps must be followed.
- Speak with a member of the IT staff (Mr. Snell, Mr. Fithian, Mr. Perea)
- Provide the permanent MAC address of the device being reinstated—IT will help you find it
- That device will be rejoined to the Guest network by the IT staff (Mr. Benjamin Snell, Mr. Lee Fithian, Mr. A.J. Perea)
- If the device is found again on the Staff network, the device will be removed from BOTH networks for the remainder of the school year.
MCA’s goal is Engaging Minds, Pursuing Christ, and Discovering Greatness. We hope that limited access to the Internet can help enhance that goal.
Happy surfing and learning!
With nerdy phileo love,
The MCA IT Staff
P.S. Printing on-campus needs to be done on a library computer, or with the help of a front desk staff member or a senior. Plan ahead if you need to print!
