welcome to the grammar school of Midland Classical Academy we're all about engaging Minds pursuing Christ and discovering greatness Midland Classical Academy exists to provide an excellent academic found from a Biblical worldview we actually began this process 20 years ago and are so thankful to be able to continue the Traditions that we have in process right now classical education is a teaching philosophy it teaches children in the way they want to be taught in the way they are wired to learn it is the authoritative traditional and enduring form of Education begun by the Greeks and Romans developed through history and now being renewed and recovered in the 1st Century it is asking questions and digging up answers it is joining the great conversation and a trivia which is the model for the classical educational philosophy we begin with the grammar stage of morning in this day do young children from birth all the way up to about 5th and 6th grade are really like sponges soaking up information they're like little fact magnets they're all excited about using rhyme and rhythm and repetition and song to learn about the world around them and they're engaged in a process of Wonder and curiosity as they are learning all about the different things in their families and who they are in the world in the logic phase we enter into that middle stage where the children are entering into that stage of asking lots of questions like why do I have to take out the trash isn't it her turn well this is a perfect opportunity for you as a parent to engage in that process that they are so excited to begin to ask those questions of how things work and why do things have to be the way they are and it's so it's a learning process. really engages the students in the rhetoric phase students are beginning to communicate and they are able to communicate what they've learned and what they wrestled with through written and verbal skills in this stage you see the Bates speeches and exciting times to have conversations and sit down and just really talk about what the meaning of life is all about classical education provides tools for a lifetime of learning and that really is the goal we want to develop we don't want to be checking off boxes and just going through a wrote list of items to learn and things to accomplish in a day we want to be developing the whole person it actually provides demonstrative results at The Gramercy are classical model is structured around core values specific strategies and our commitment to our families who we are serving in the core value of Truth where we begin we are looking at God's word the absolute truth that we filled the framework of our structure of Education around we were speaking truth to one another in love and in love we are looking to see how we can proclaim the gospel of God and love one another and the way he first loved us dry redemption in Jesus Christ in our family core values we are looking to serve families because our model here at the grammar school is based on homeschooling we have a love of learning within the family picture and so we're actually here to serve the families the initiative core value speaks to the actual effort it takes to engage in the learning process it takes initiative to engage in conversation engage in personal strategies that will help enable us to become better Learners and and more aware of those that were serving our specific strategy of the classical team approach is unique at the grammar school our role is to provide a service to families and in this role we're providing the structure the curriculum the pacing the encouragement and the accountability to help families who are choosing to homeschool their children in the pear brawl at the grammar school they're actually engaging in the learning process to fulfill their god-given Duty and privilege to educate and rear their children we do this within a hybrid model structure it looks like having core days at school either you'll sign up for Monday Wednesday corday schedule or a Tuesday Thursday corday schedule these are the days in which your children will actually attend school in the classroom setting on the other two days they're staying home with you they're co-teaching parent who was engaging and the learning process with them and completing assignments that were initially introduced in the classroom by the teacher we also have an optional. on Fridays we call this Friday school at Friday school students are engaged in a very Hands-On exploitative exposure level of learning science is a core class which is included in your core tuition payments and it is a 50 minute grade level talk curriculum that provide students with a wonderful Hands-On interactive way of learning more about science we also offer two options to provide in Richmond classes these classes include Dance Art Music guitar keyboarding and theater and a few other options at different times throughout the year depending on who's available and he has passion for a teaching the subject Friday schools a great way to allow children to engage in the learning process and develop wondering curiosity without the stress of having test and homework every day is is it Sunday and does not have to be dependent upon previous days on our school days we engage in classroom instruction with a classroom teacher who is modeling and leading the students and introducing the concepts that are but they're learning in there we are able to have smaller classroom sizes at the grammar school which is a big plus there are no more than 12 students per class in the Kinder first and second grades and no more than 15 students in a class in third sixth grade and so this enables us to be able to meet the needs of each student more effectively at the children enter into school into the classroom on a day that they're able to prepare for their day with their classmates and their teacher and I pray together share prayer requests they read and memorize scripture together and we're very thankful that we have the freedom to teach all of our subjects from a Biblical worldview at MCA we also discipline from a local grid what this practically looks like is each teacher has her own personality and her own way of managing her classroom discipline system so we have a structure where students are given one morning and a second warning and then the third time and offenses made they actually lose the privilege to attend school that day when this happens there's already been much correction and redirection by the teachers and staff and administrators at the school and it should apparent that the student needs to be taken home to have further understanding and discipline given by the parents when this happens we are able to partner with families and encourage the student when they come back and return to school and beginner Fresh Start on a new day Hyundai's are unique in the sense that parents and families are able to manage their homeschool day the way they would like to we are using a lesson plan sheet and where they are medicating with the classroom teacher in the code teacher at home through a home study sheet this home study seat will be the actual method listing everything that the classroom teacher is teaching on a cool day and everything that the co-teacher parent that home is responsible to cover with their student on a home day it'll have a full week ahead of time and the parents are able to look at it prioritize and manage how they would like to teach that curriculum with their student at home we are all about having parents be able to reach their children in a way that the children are wired to learn so we hope to encourage parents in understanding how their children can learn best students different every family is different and parents are able to manage their own home day by looking to see what their values and goals are that they want to achieve as a family initials is key for us to manage, skating between school and Home in the role of initials parents are actually taking ownership of their home day they will be working through curriculum and worksheets with their students and when they're satisfied their student has been well-prepared and done Stan's the material to their satisfaction they will initial at the top of the worksheet pages and this indicates a parent stamp of approval this means that they've covered the material and they're satisfied that their students ready to the to return to school and continue engaging in the learning process either through continued instructions or through assessments the role of initials give parents the power and the freedom to manage their home day this looks like being able to make choices about how there's do Malvern the material for instance there is a phonics lesson worksheet about the letter e you may choose to go outside and draw with chalk on your driveway to learn the letter e or you might have a math fact sheet that you have to finish you might choose to go outside and shoot hoops or play catch them practice your math facts you're still able to come in and initial a blank sheet and that actually means that you covered that material in your own way and the teacher in the classroom is not going to go back and great it you're actually going to be grading those worksheets at home and we give you answer keys and teachers manuals to help provide what you need to go over the material and grade it with your children at home also you have the freedom to use your initials to motivate your children so your children's not doing a neat job or their handwritings to sloppy maybe you'll just tell them I won't initial that paper until you've done a better job or I want initial your pay until you show a respectful attitude toward your mom and dad there different ways to utilize your initials as a parent and it does help you have leveraged manager home day in the way that you would like to do that according to your values service hours are another way that we offer a way for us to communicate with one another every family is responsible to complete 30 service hours every school year there's no specific schedule or no specific time frame except start at the beginning of the summer till the end of the school year and these can be accomplished in many different ways will have sign up sheets at orientation night will also post them on the newsletter The Weekly Newsletter that we send out and you may just want to call at the offer your services are asked if what could be done that particular week we'll find different ways for us to partner together in that we also like to support parents in the sense that we provide curriculum for you to use at home will be using it together school and at home some student have a backpack and they will be carrying it back and forth from school to home our curriculum is provided for you you don't have to go out and purchase anything we will actually be including everything you need in your curriculum stack some things will be I doubt in return back at the end of school other things like consumables will just stay home with you and will use them throughout the year we also provide workshops for parents who might need a little extra support or have questions or we might just like to have the fellowship whether parents and these are offered at different times throughout the year after school there according to different topics and different grade levels we also have many resources available to you on the website we have a good night Dad podcast is one of our favorites where you can go and learn more information about the culture at MCA specific topics related to the upper school and the grammar school and just get a general feel for how you can do a better job of homeschooling your children and the family and you'll receive encouragement that's the main thing at our school is that we really like to partner together and encourage one another cuz we're all on this journey together we provide Mentor families for new families to come into the classroom these families are actually engaged in the classroom with you and they will be your go-to to help answer any questions that you might have their great support system and they really do know how to help encourage you are teachers and I traitors are always available to help and we'll be glad to sit down and have a conversation with you or work through a lesson together or maybe just come in and share at time of needing prayer we're always glad to be there for you our commitment is directly related to how we engage our minds pursue Christ and discover greatness together we are partnering with families to develop christ-like values we're empowering parents and their homeschool journey and where calling the love for lifelong learning from a Biblical Foundation these are many different things that all come together to provide a way for us to give glory to God in the educational process here at the grammar school at Midland Classical Academy I hope that this has been helpful and I hope to continue the conversation with you at school in our offices and maybe even on the baseball field thank you
