Honors and Awards
Midland Classical Academy maintains a system of formal honors and awards for the following reasons:
- To increase the academic motivation of all the students by demonstrating that good work and good behavior are rewarded.
- To draw public attention to the academic quality and outstanding behavior of the students at Midland Classical Academy.
I. Honor Roll
Students earning placement on the Honor Roll will be recognized at the awards assembly in the spring. Placement on the Honor Roll requires three courses with a Mastery with Honor evaluation, no Failure to Master evaluations, and the completion of six courses during the year.
II. Awards
Faculty Commendation Award: This award is based on three factors: exemplary conduct, academic achievement, and a positive attitude toward school. The faculty will set the requirements for obtaining this award. This award is presented at the awards assembly in May.
Outstanding Student Award: This award is presented to the senior each year who
- provides an outstanding example of a student that fulfills the principles of Midland Classical Academy in their daily lives and
- demonstrates outstanding academic achievement.
Department Heads, in consultation with the staff, will select the student. The award is presented at the awards assembly in May.
Character Awards: Periodically, the staff will recognize students that have exhibited desirable character traits. Honored students will be recognized during assembly and in the school newsletter. Categories for recognition include: Diligence, Encouragement, Faithfulness, Honesty, Humility, Loving-kindness, Patience, Respectfulness, and Thankfulness.
Graduation with Honors: A student may graduate with honors from MCA by achieving the Honor Roll for at least 4 years, 3 of which must be in high school.
Exceptions may be granted on a case by case basis, with the mutual consent of the Dean of Students and Academic dean, for graduates meeting MCA graduation requirements, but only having attended MCA for three years. The exception would apply if such graduates are deemed to have sufficiently complied with standards required for a designation of Graduation with Honors, as determined in the sole discretion of the Dean of Students and Academic Dean. No exception need be granted, and exceptions granted shall not constitute precedent.
Service Award: The staff will publish requirements for students to achieve service awards by contributing volunteer hours for approved projects. These awards will be presented at the awards assembly in May.
